Hakan Çakmak, 50, was a familiar figure behind his video camera at cultural events across the TRNC and on screen where he promoted artists with in-depth profiles and interviews on his weekend programme.
The father of two was found dead at his Minareliköy home in the early hours of June 22 due to heart problems.
The packed opening of the joint exhibition, In Memoriam, saw tributes by organiser Oya Yaşarcan Silbery, Yaşar Ersoy and grieving family members, as well as the launch of a memorial book.
Among the many artists of all genres from across North Cyprus who gathered for the tributes were Heidi Trautmann and İsmet Tatar.
Mrs Trautmann said: “Wherever I went . . . he was there already with his TV camera set up. He recorded all my exhibitions and launches of my books and came to our house.
“Hakan had started to do individual TV interviews with artists and he spent a day in their studios concentrating on their work and their personal philosophy. We found him a very sensitive person . . . he always listened with great interest and turned the recorded material into a beautiful film. He once told me that he loved to be where the pulse of the arts is beating.”
She added that they had last met in April when she had commented that he looked unwell and he had replied: “I work too much, I need a rest.”
Portraits of Mr Çakmak are included in the multimedia show which may be viewed until 10pm daily until Wednesday, September 6.
