Bellapais Abbey promises a night of classics

A FEAST of classical music in the vaulted refectory of Bellapais Abbey offers five more concerts in the current season this month before the launch of the 21st International Bellapais Music Festival on Wednesday, May 17.

The 13th International Spring Bellapais Music Fest showcases the classic movie music of Enrico Morricone tomorrow with a concert by Lefkoşa Municipality Orchestra conducted by Oskar Hoca with gems from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly to Café Paradiso.

A young TRNC trio follows on Tuesday with a concert by violinist Nazlı Avcı, Ezgi Gizem Kıdır on French horn and oboist Eylül Can Akdağ, with pianist Kenan Tatlıcı and a programme of Reinecke's Trio for Piano, Oboe and Horn, Opus 188 and Trio for Piano, Violin and Horn, Opus 40 by Brahms.

North Cyprus resident and favourite pianist Gülseren Sadak  joins her guest, Fikri Toros, on stage on Wednesday for a programme of works by Schubert, Bach, Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Ravel.

A Dance of Words with Songs is promised on Friday as Cihan Ünal offers a programme of popular songs from New York, New York to Evita, Autumn Leaves, Fly Me to the Moon and Besame Mucho accompanied by pianist Önder Bali, flautist İbrahim Özbaskin and Yaman Zencirci on double bass.

The season closes next Saturday, May 13, with a free-of-charge concert by the TRNC Presidential Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ali Hoca.

All concerts start at 8.30pm and tickets, priced at 30TL,  are available from Deniz Plaza, Dome and Bellapais Gardens hotels, Kybele Restaurant, Bellapais ticket office or on the door.
