Asli Bolayir is a Cypriot from Paphos, but now based both on the island and in Barcelona. Ms Bolayır launched her latest exhibition 'St George and I' in October last year at Bellapais. She also worked with Lefkoşa's Studio 21 art workshop and with POST-Rİ they created a bicommunal mural in the capital's Old City in October.
'Territories' project with partnership with Corsican artist Christine Chiroboli was first shown in Barcelona and later in 2014 in South Nicosia with the support of the French Institute.
The Cypriot artist said that the exhibition was a good opportunity to challenge borders, identity and flags.
Both island artists exploreissues such as identity and cross-border movement or confinement in their work which, in turn, reflects their internal struggle as artists to find their own place or to become a part of the place in which they live.
Their projects reflect the concern of being “somewhere” or “nowhere” between national policies and natural identity policies and the conflict of being “somebody” or “nobody”.'
The show launches on Friday September 15 between 4pm and7pm and can be viewed at İbrahim's Khan until October 1.
