GERMAN Language Weeks this month and next month offer a season of films, literary, social and musical events sponsored by the German, Swiss and Austrian embassies and the Goethe Institut.

Five November events will take place in the capital, two in the buffer zone and three more at the Old Town Naci Talat House of Peace and Friendship.

On the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Home for Cooperation hosts an “exciting live multi-media presentation” of the events of autumn 1989 by German political scientist and speaker Ingo Espenschied on Friday, November 1, from 6 to 8pm.

A second anniversary event at 7.30pm on Wednesday November 13 will see witnesses to the fall of the Berlin Wall share their stories and personal insights of the historical moment in European history.

A public recital by German pianist Leonie Rettig is slated for 8.30pm to 10pm on Thursday, November 7, hosted by the Naci Talat Foundation, with a programme of works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann and the music of J S Bach transcribed by Italian pianist composer Ferruccio Busoni.
