The Lefkoşa-born pianist, daughter of musician, conductor and Bellapais classical concert organiser Yılmaz Taner, trained with her father and at Ankara's State Conservatory before winning a scholarship to the Royal College of Music.

She won two degrees and a rarely given Concert Performance Diploma before completing masterclasses and prize-winning performances at national festivals and her 1998 debut recital at London's Wigmore Hall.

Ms Taner is well known to TRNC audiences for her Bellapais Abbey and national concerts but she has also toured over 70 countries for solo recitals and is a member of the Association for Artists United for Peace.

The free-of-charge 8pm concerts take place on Wednesday, March 7 at Middle East Technical University in Kalkanlı and on Friday, March 9 at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Centre in Lefkoşa.

Visiting conductor Chloe Van Soeterstede will lead the concerts, which promise a programme of Mendelssohn's Fingal's Cave Overture Opus 26, the Hebrides Overture, Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor Opus 16 and Beethoven's Fifth Symphony in C minor, Opus 67.

Both concerts are open to the public and early arrival is advised.
