SIXTEEN years ago this week, the world watched in horror as the United States suffered the worst homeland attack since Pearl Harbour in 1941. Almost 3,000 Americans lost their lives in attacks on the Pentagon, the World Trade Centre and on United Flight 93. The sight of airliners flying into the Twin Towers and the buildings collapsing, leaving nothing behind but rubble and dust-covered survivors, shocked the world.
But another building also collapsed that day. That was WTC Building 7, across the road from the Twin Towers. Building 7 housed the records of several Federal agencies and some of Wall Street’s most prestigious financial firms. WTC 7 joins the many unanswered questions about 9/11 which have kept conspiracy theorists busy ever since.  These remain:
p The Ignored Warnings? The US intelligence agencies received over 20 warnings that an attack was imminent. No action was taken but, significantly, on September 10, 2001, a group of top Pentagon officials suddenly cancelled their flight plans for the following morning.
p The Missing Air Defence? Why weren't USAF planes sent up to intercept the hijacked planes? For some unknown reason the USAF air defences seem to have been on stand-down that morning.
p The Saudi Connection?  Only last week new FBI evidence in a lawsuit against the government of Saudi Arabia alleges the kingdom's embassy in Washington, DC, may have funded a test run for the 9/11 attacks.
p The Curious case of the Dancing Israelis?  Early on 9/11 a TV crew was spotted on the far side of the Hudson River focusing on the Twin Towers. When the attacks finally went in they were seen cheering. Five Israeli citizens were arrested by the FBI. Seventy-one days later they were released without explanation.
p The Collapse of the Twin Towers? Why did the towers collapse so quickly? In the 100-year history of steel skyscrapers not one, including the Grenfell Tower in South London, has ever collapsed because of fire.
p The Collapse of WTC 7? WTC 7 was the furthest of the affected buildings from the Twin Towers. Little debris struck it, and there were no large fires burning inside. Yet, at 5.20pm, WTC 7 inexplicably collapsed in seven seconds.
p Attack on the Pentagon? Full footage of the Pentagon explosion has never been released, only five still-frames or brief clips from security cameras' footage. The hole in the wall is clearly too small for a Boeing 757 – and what happened to the wings?
p Crash in Pennsylvania? Why was the debris from United Flight 93 spread out over eight miles? Normally when planes crash into the ground the debris ends up in a small area. Debris scattered over eight miles is more indicative of a mid-air explosion.
p Clean-Up or Cover-Up? Why was the debris from the Pentagon and the World Trade Centre destroyed immediately after 9/11? Normally forensic teams examine all evidence from a crime scene. Yet the steel from the WTC was immediately shipped to Korea and China, where it was melted down within days.
p Insider Trading?  Who were the big investors who knew 9/11 was about to happen? Although the trading on American and United Airlines suddenly increased by an unprecedented 1,200 per cent the day before 9/11, no public investigations into who profited were undertaken.
p The Federal Commission? Why did Bush try and block the formation of the 9/11 Commission for over a year? It only took six days to form the Warren Commission, which investigated the assassination of John F Kennedy.
The fact is that the official US narrative about 9/11 is as full of holes as a Swiss cheese. None of them has been as puzzling as the mysterious collapse of WTC 7, but at last we may have some answers. For Washington these new revelations make worrying reading, and provide the first hard evidence of an official cover-up.
The key is the latest independent scientific report on Building 7, a 47-storey steel-framed skyscraper located across from the Twin Towers. WTC 7 was not hit by any plane, but collapsed at 5.20 that evening, imploding to fall straight down, at near freefall speed, to land in a compact pile of rubble, barely damaging any of the surrounding buildings. Building 7's collapse is consistent only with controlled demolitions.
But WTC 7 building was no ordinary building. At the time of its destruction, it exclusively housed government agencies and financial institutions. It contained offices of the IRS, Secret Service and FBI. It also housed the US Securities and Exchange Commission files relating to numerous Wall Street investigations. All the files for approximately 3,000 to 4,000 SEC cases, including the Enron and Pentagon scandals, were destroyed. Some of the biggest names on Wall Street under investigation for fraud, insider trading and money-laundering saw possibly incriminating records conveniently disappear.
Even more suspicious, the leaseholder of the WTC, Larry Silverstein, admitted in 2002 that on the afternoon of 9/11 he asked the NYC Fire Department commander to "pull" WTC 7. That’s odd: it normally takes a team of skilled people many weeks to prepare large controlled demolitions. More suspicious still, the BBC reported that WTC7 had collapsed 23 minutes before it actually went down.
Yet not a word on WTC 7 appeared in the 9/11 Commission report. More curious still, the US National Institute of Standards and Technology classified their computer model of WTC 7’s collapse as “Secret”.
However two new disclosures reveal fresh evidence of what really happened to WTC 7 that day: a Danish court case and forensic scientific facts surrounding the building’s destruction. Both prove beyond any reasonable doubt that WTC 7 was demolished intentionally.
Well-informed scientists first aired their doubts about the attacks in 2009, when a group of nine distinguished metallurgists published their findings on the metallic iron microspheres found at the WTC sites. The Open Chemical Physics Journal, 2009, 2: 7-31, reported “Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe”.
Their bombshell finding was that “we have discovered distinctive red/gray chips in all the samples we have studied of the dust produced by the destruction of the World Trade Centre . . . The red portion of these chips is found to be an unreacted thermitic material and highly energetic.” The inquisitive chemists had found proof that thermite was present at the WTC on 9/11.
Although by itself thermite is not an explosive, it operates by focusing intense heat on a small spot to melt metal. Mixed with magnesium or powdered aluminium it can be a devastatingly hot localised explosive charge, cutting steel like a hot knife.  Thermite has no place in a steel-framed building.
Things got worse for the official version of events when in an article in the Danish newspaper Weekendavisen, journalist Søren Villemoes accused chemist Dr Niels Harrit of being a "crackpot" for daring to conclude that the destruction of three WTC buildings on September 11, 2001, was a controlled demolition.
Harrit, a 40-year professor of chemistry at the University of Copenhagen, promptly filed a libel lawsuit. The Danish High Court heard the case in 2015 and after hearing scientific evidence unhesitatingly found for the aggrieved scientist. The collapse of the WTC buildings were now exposed officially by law as pre-planned demolitions.
The court’s finding also vindicates the often overlooked seismic evidence; at 5.21pm on 9/11 the NY Palisades site recorded “wave sources of independently detonated explosives”.
So where does this leave us? No-one can now deny that there were controlled demolitions on 9/11. Yet again, the old adage, “It’s the cover-up, not the crime” seems to be the best explanation. And, as history has taught us, once a dam of lies starts to leak, then the whole intricate official structure of untruths and evasions eventually collapses: a bit like WTC 7 and the Twin Towers themselves?
