The first goal for Lefkoşa-based Yenicami was scored in the third minute of its away game by John Ebuka, with the team’s second coming from John Okoli in the 77th minute. The only goal for İskele was scored by Nuo Emeka after six minutes.
GAÜ-Çetinkaya, known as the Red Thunders, beat Yeniboğaziçi 2-1 at home with one commentator writing: “Çetinkaya struggled, but won.”
Mağusa Türk Gücü, also playing at home, lost 2-1 to Cihangir in a “heated” game, with the first goal coming in the 38th minute for the Gazimağusa side from a 25-metre shot by Arif Uysal. The home team failed to capitalise on the goal, however, and in the 50th and 53rd minutes, two rapid-fire goals were notched up by Cihangir’s Chimonso Offor.
In other games, Baf Ülkü Yurdu, currently eighth in the league, drew with 19th-placed Yalova.
There were scuffles during a clash between Lefkoşa Küçük Kaymaklı, who lost 3-1 at home to Girne team Doğan Türk Birliği.
Police had to be called at half time after fighting broke out among spectators before spreading to the pitch, where Kaymaklı goalkeeper Ali Duvarcı was shown a red card. The referee also ordered Kaymaklı coach Nazım Aktunç, visiting Girne technical director Caner Oshan, coach Afün Girgen and manager Emirali Ferhatoğulları to leave the pitch after becoming embroiled in the fracas.
Merit Alsancak Yeşilova beat Ozanköy 2-1 last Saturday, while Türk Ocağı beat Gençlik Gücü 1-0.
