Some 1,000 spectators watched the game in Lefkoşa’s Atatürk Stadium which was held in aid of the Kemal Saraçoğlu Foundation for Children with Leukaemia and the Fight Against Cancer and to help pay medical bills for six-year-old cancer sufferer Nefes Demirpence who is receiving treatment in Germany.

Before kick-off there was a concert by Buray Hoşsöz and a “mini-match” between children’s teams, for which young cancer patients supported by the foundation were among the crowd.

The Turkish Fame Karma team facing Gönyeli Masters included renowned players such as Tugay Kerimoğlu, Emre Aşık, Evren Turhan, Kerem İnan and Orkun Uşak who helped their side to win the match 4-2.

Foundation staff member Suzan Gürel said: “The football match was a very kind gesture by those who organised it, took part or provided sponsorship.

“This event was held in aid of Nefes and for our foundation’s registered children who are also battling cancer. We are very thankful to all those who thought of these children and supported us financially.”

Meanwhile, a recent fair at the Cyprus Final School in Gazimağusa, where students sold products from the foundation such as cups and calendars, raised more than 2,000TL.
