Making headlines, Merit Alsancak Yeşilova (MAY) ‘thrashed’ Binatlı 5-3 at the Karaoğlanoğlu Orhan Dural stadium – with two goals for the green-white striped MAY being scored by Billy Mehmet, Alattin Yavuz (from Binatlı) was unlucky in scoring an own goal, while the remaining scores from Yeşilova came from Esosa Irogue and Emmanuel Mbah. Moses Akinade replied for Binatlı twice, while the third came from a penalty taken by Berkem Korbay.
First placed Yenicami was described as having ‘massacred’ Gönyeli with a score of 5-0 on Gönyeli’s ground. Although the first half ended without any goals, Yenicami “thundered” back in the second half – with commentators saying that “Yenicami were playing with high morale after scoring five goals in just 30 minutes. This took them to the top of the league in just the first game of the season”.
All eyes were on league new comers Hamitköy – who drew 1-1 against Lefke. Hamitköy spent the first half in the lead with the help of their goal from John Ebuka in the 36th minute. But a “determined” Lefke side was lifted by Armstrong Chidi’s score – both teams took a point.
