The event at Lefkoşa’s Cemsa Karting race track on Friday last week attracted 132 classic car owners, with 119 actually competing.
Organised by the Classic Car Association (KTKOD), the day was supported by main sponsor Cyprus Wireless Solutions and backed by the Prime Ministry Anti-Drugs Commission.
In second place was Hüseyin Gümüşok, who raced in his 1969 Austin Mini Pick-Up, with Kıyal Selviler coming third in his 1976 Ford Escort MK2.
Organisers said the touring category, which was new for this year, “satisfied eagerly-awaiting crowds with its breathtaking and skilful performances…”
Awards were presented to winners and runners-up by the sponsors, with KTKOD chairman Burçin Aliusta saying: “We are proud and delighted to have organised yet another event which some said could not be organised.
“We have increased our objectives this year to provide a fantastic 2019 season, with this slalom being the fifth event of the year.
“Our events have become a trade mark in the country and are also being broadcast for many hours on State television.”
Mr Aliusta congratulated drivers “for their extraordinary, skilful performances and the fact that not one accident occurred while providing entertainment for the hundreds of classic car and race enthusiasts who came to watch.”
