Organisers of Sunday's event, Nireas Triathlon, describe themselves as a group of passionate athletes and claim theirs is “the most prestigious triathlon competition in Cyprus”.
“The course is flat and fast and together with the incredible scenery guarantees a unique experience,” said a statement from the group.
The Ares Team of athletes from North Cyprus competed in the Sprint Triathlon Category, involving a 750m swim, 20km cycle risw and 5km run, and in the Olympic Triathlon which saw each distance doubled.
Kemal Elektrikçi was the fastest Turkish Cypriot in the Sprint, finishing the course in one hour 17 minutes and 31 seconds, while Hüseyin Arhan was the first TRNC competitor home in the Olympic event, crossing the finish line in two hours 28 minutes and 13 seconds.
