YAK stay top despite draw

Yenicami remain top of the K-Pet Super League table – but only on goal difference, after they dropped two points in a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Baf Ülkü Yurdu on February 11.

YAK stay top despite draw

The Lefkoşa side were unable to break down the visitors from Güzelyurt, who are eighth on 23 points.

The result left Yenicami, who stretched their unbeaten league run to 10 games, on 37 points.

Rivals GAÜ Çetinkaya now have the same number of points after coming from 2-0 down to beat fellow title contenders Binatlı 3-2 during a dramatic encounter on Monday night.

Binatlı had taken the lead with a 13th-minute penalty converted by Evor John Bello, before Burak Sarıkaya doubled his team’s advantage shortly after the break.

The home side appeared to be cruising to victory before David Solomon Abwo pegged them back with a shot in the 72nd minute and Esin Sonay equalised from the penalty spot with just 10 minutes to go.

Serhan Önet headed in GAÜ-Çetinkaya’s winner in the 83rd minute of play.

The final score left Binatlı on 33 points, swapping third and fourth places with Doğan Türk Birliği, who now have 34 points following a 3-1 win away to struggling Gençlik Gücü last Saturday at Lefkoşa's Atatürk Sports Stadium.

The goals for the winning side came in the 30th minute, with a shot into the net by Onyekachi Okafor following a pass from Selim Saygı; in the 65th minute when Hasan Kanlı found the target with a header; and in the 76th minute from the boot of Saygı.

The hosts’ consolation came from Ndue Mujeci, in the 72nd minute.

The pick of the weekend’s other results saw home side Cihangir and İskele's Gençler Birliği share the spoils in an action-packed mid-table 3-3 draw, which saw both sides lose their leads.

Fans of Yalova, who have only won three of their 10 home league games so far this season, were disappointed once again after watching their side held to a 2-2 draw by Lefke.

Ozanköy, who this week made the “surprise” announcement of Mehmet Bolkan as their new manager, remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the table after their 11th defeat of the season, a 1-0 loss at home to Küçük Kaymaklı. The only goal of the game came from Uğur Gök, in the 29th minute.

Ozanköy have just 11 points, four behind their closest rivals Yeni Boğaziçi, who lost 2-1 to Merit Alsancak Yeşilova.

Türk Ocağı Limasol beat Mağusa Türk Gücü 2-0 to move up four places to 10th, on 22 points.

GAÜ Çetinkaya plays Yalova today, at 6pm.
