Attacks on five women

Five women were assaulted last week, in the run-up to International Women’s Day — as campaigners against domestic violence revealed that one in three women is subjected to, and almost all say they have witnessed, abuse at the hands of a partner.

Attacks on five women

Last week’s reported attack began on Saturday March 2, when Girne supermarket cashier Turgay Duman, 42, was arrested for allegedly attacking his two-months-pregnant wife, claiming the baby was not his.
He was bailed on Thursday after claiming in court that his wife and her family had threatened him with violence.

Police said two women were assaulted in the Gazimağusa area on Sunday and Monday and a third was verbally abused by her estranged husband, contravening a restraining order.
