The path, to be funded by the European Union, will run alongside Kanlıdere, a non-navigable river that runs from the Troodos mountains to Lefkoşa before turning east through the Mesaoria plain.
Details of the plan emerged this week following a joint visit on June 4 by Lefkoşa Mayor Mehmet Harmancı and his South Nicosia counterpart, Constantinos Yiorkadjis, to explore possible routes within the UN buffer zone.
They were joined on the trip by the UN’s representative on the island, Elizabeth Spehar, and top European Commission official Maarten Verwey.
