Karşıyaka resident Mick Wells used the 2,677TL he raised in sponsorship for swimming two laps of his pool every day for nine days from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day to purchase dog and cat food for KAR, along with bleach and other vital items requested.
The goods were handed over to KAR officials on Monday, who thanked Mr Wells and wife Karen, who filmed his swimming challenge.
“We said it then and we repeat it now, thank you, you mad, mad man and the equally mad Karen, for continuing to support KAR at the coldest time of the year.”
Meanwhile 2,200TL collected by the Slimmers’ World Çatalköy group from members’ donations, raffle ticket sales and “fines” for “weight gain” was split between KAR and another animal charity, Furry Friends.
Slimmers’ World Çatalköy head Val Stuart-Traynor said: “Every six months we make a donation to KAR. We split the total sum we have between two charities, as we want to help as many animals as we can through the funds raised.”
