He also said he has “never worked with such a dishonest politician”.
He slammed Mr. Akıncı for making use of Turkey during the [TRNC Presidential] election campaign.
The remarks, made in Ankara on Monday during a press conference, were in reply to Mr. Akıncı’s statements in an interview in the UK Guardian newspaper, in which Mr. Akinci warned that a “swallowing up” of North Cyprus by Turkey “would be catastrophic”.
Mr Çavuşoğlu added: “What is Akıncı trying to do? Why is he attacking Turkey? I wish to emphasise that the Turkish Cypriot people need to think about this carefully”.
Mr Çavuşoğlu said: “While Turkey is struggling against terrorism, what is Akıncı trying to do? Who is he serving? He is supporting terrorism,” he said.
Mr. Akıncı, who kicked off his election campaign last Wednesday, said that if a comprehensive solution failed to materialise in Cyprus, the TRNC would grow increasingly dependent on Ankara. He told the Guardian that the north “could end up being swallowed up as a de facto Turkish province”.
