RECEDING water levels following last month's heavy rains have revealed debris in reservoirs and water courses, sparking public concern.

Güzelyurt District Office teams have carried out a clean-up of the Güzelyurt reservoir when nine-year-record high water fell, exposing debris including armchairs and suitcases.

District Officer Savaş Orakçıoğlu said the clearance would include the rereservoir' capacity.

Meanwhile ebbing water levels in the stream flowing between Doğancı and Gaziveren, near Lefke, have also exposed agricultural pesticide containers among dumped waste.

Local residents expressed concern about the discovery, since water from the stream was used for agricultural irrigation.
