Making an announcement via social media on Thursday, Dr Özersay announced his candidacy under “four visions”.

His other three other goals are “cooperation for a solution, before a solution”, “communal peace” and a “new structure of the presidency”.
Explaining his decision to run as an independent candidate, Dr Özersay wrote that the President should be above party politics and that he would be standing down as HP leader.
