The Highways Department confirmed that the stretch was closed to traffic, but Cyprus Today’s Turkish language sister newspaper, Kıbrıs, reported that many vehicles continue to use it every day, ignoring two rocks placed to indicate that they should not do so.
“You can just drive between the rocks and many do,” said the paper, which added that motorists risked danger from mounds of earth and stones.
