Elizabeth McMajury Beydağlı, who was 70, was found dead in her bed by her son, with whom she was staying.
A post-mortem examination is to be carried out to determine the cause of her death and funeral details are also to be announced.
The Irish-born mother-of-two, who moved to the UK as a teenager, was well-known to locals and tourists through the Alsancak hotel and rent-a-car business she ran with her husband, former Hoteliers' Association chairman Turhan Beydağlı.
The couple, who were together for more than 30 years and married about four years ago, met when Mrs Beydağlı came on holiday to the Kings Court Hotel owned by Mr Beydağlı.
She moved to the TRNC some 35 years ago and started working in the hotel’s car rental business which she ran for many years as well as being involved in the hotel's management.
“She was my angel . . . No words can describe my pain. She was a beautiful person who was very calm and collected and we were the same in terms of having a calm social life,” said Mr Beydağlı. “I loved her very much and am in shock that she is gone.”
