More bad weather is predicted this week, with thunderstorms predicted on Thursday, and torrential rain on Friday, but Meteorology Department head Raif İlker Buran said he did not expect dangerous conditions.
The Girne area bore the brunt of the latest storm — with Selvilitepe above Lapta the wettest place, receiving some 95mm of rainfall in the 24 hours to 8am on Thursday, followed by Karaoğlanoğlu with 90mm — but Mr Buran said the slower, prolonged deluge had allowed the water to flow safely through riverbeds without causing the devastating flooding of December 5.
