Since last Monday, vehicles carrying less than nine passengers were banned from using the Değirmenlik-Girne road, between 9am and 7pm. Heavy duty vehicles weighing five tons or more were banned from using the road between 7pm and 9am.
Within the framework of the road works, 5,000 square meters of asphalt has been renewed, according to a statement by the Transport Ministry. Work to replace damaged crash barriers and traffic signs are continuing, as well as the painting of lanes.
Once finished, the Girne mountain road will be “safer with regards to traffic”, the ministry announced.
“The road will continue to be maintained where necessary until the new road with its new route is completed. We would like to thank drivers and the people living in the area for the patience and understanding they showed during the works,” the statement continued.
