CHILDREN in war-torn Syria will soon have a reason to smile thanks to pupils at Girne's Anafartalar High School who have joined a campaign to collect toys and clothes for them.

Groups send toys, clothes to Syria

Anafartalar has joined an initiative by the Goodness Volunteers, a community group belonging to the Evkaf religious and cultural trust - and since Monday its pupils have been collecting bags of donated items for children in Syria who are under the age of 15.

More unwanted toys and clothes are being urgently requested by Anafartalar to meet Thursday's deadline for handing them over to Evkaf for shipping to Syria soon afterwards.

Project organizer at the school is English teacher Oya Kutsal, who told Cyprus Today: “As (part of)  Evkaf, we are trying to encourage other schools around the country to join the Goodness Volunteers, with the Oğuz Secondary School in the process of joining.” She said that under the scheme, children were “taught about doing good and making it a habit”.
