HOMEBUYERS who battled for years to stop the enforced sale of their properties on Karşıyaka’s Olympus development have expressed relief following an out-of-court settlement over an unpaid loan that had nothing to do with them.

Although details are still to be finalised, Hasan Alkan, the lawyer representing seven buyers on the site, said agreement had been reached to avoid his clients having to face additional years of misery.

“We are hoping to finalise an agreement with the bank under which every property buyer  pays £6,000 and for memorandums on their properties to be released,” said Mr Alkan, although he added that there remained an ongoing tax issue involving Near East Bank and Boyut Construction owner Fırat Yıldırım.
