Kıbrıs marks 30th year

CYPRUS Today's sister Turkish-language newspaper, Kıbrıs, celebrated its 30th anniverary on Thursday with a party that also marked the country's Press Day.

The daily was launched on July 11, 1989 by businessman Asil Nadir, founding chairman of the Kıbrıs Media Group, who was on hand at the event to cut a birthday cake, watched by group vice-chairman Nur Nadir and company staff including the newspaper's editor-in-chief, Ali Baturay, editor Emin Akkor.

Mr Nadir praised his staff for their “selfless sacrifices” and their accomplishments in spite of the country's “stagnation”, and expressed confidence that today's “difficult industrial circumstances” would be overcome.
