The announcement following Tuesday’s first meeting of the coalition Council of Ministers came amid calls by campaigners asking for the measure to be enforced by the time Cancer Week is held in April.
The legislation, now being referred to Parliament, will require information such as the age, sex and profession of cancer sufferers, as well as the type of the disease they have, to be gathered into a database, so providing accurate information about the disease, including its prevalence and key geographical locations.
