Making Girne rubbish-free

THE Girne Volunteers for Good community group is continuing its efforts to make the TRNC rubbish-free by holding clean-up events at locations around the town.

Making Girne rubbish-free

The group, which is affiliated to the Evkaf Religious Foundation, collected more than 10 large bags of rubbish from around Girne Amphitheatre this week, with the municipality providing a bus for transport in addition to bags and gloves.

Speaking of the “Clean-Up To Take A Breath” initiative, head of Girne Volunteers for Good Oya Kutsal told Cyprus Today: “We have a dream of being able to convert the area between the amphitheatre and Girne Castle into a permanent, rubbish-free zone where people can breathe fresh air. We need support and welcome anyone who can contribute to our clean-up campaign.”

Volunteer Diana Suyunshalina said: “It was another great day and another great cleaning event. It was such a pleasure to see old and new friends join us and it was so much fun to work together and have a picnic afterwards.”
