Members of the newly formed North Cyprus Animal Carers Group met İskele Municipality officials this week to discuss conditions at the town’s Animal Shelter following an inspection and report by the State Veterinary Department.

Cyprus Today last week reported controversy over animal welfare at the kennels, with the group’s Ralf Purcell claiming dogs and puppies were being neglected. Veterinary Department head Hüda Hüdaoğlu told this paper they had found that, although the animals were not being fed dry food, they were “not in a state of malnutrition” as they were being given “leftovers” collected from local restaurants, hotels and cafés
