He made the comments during the British Residents Society (BRS) annual Summer Dance which took place at the Merit Royal hotel in Alsancak last Sunday and was attended by 250 people.

The PM used the event as an opportunity to comment on the UK’s planned departure from the European Union, scheduled to take place on October 31.

“We, as the TRNC government, are following the Brexit process closely,” Mr Tatar told Cyprus Today .

“I made a sincere call [at the BRS Summer Dance] to the expats living in South Cyprus that, based on all this Brexit stuff and concerns, they should move to the TRNC.

“It makes us happy to see the expats in the TRNC making such valued contributions to us culturally, socially, economically and through their charity work.

“As someone who studied at Cambridge University, I told the BRS event that we share the same values.

“We will always be with the expat community and want to serve them as well, because serving them means making North Cyprus better.

“Of course we have issues that needs to be addressed that have accumulated over many years. But we need to see what we can do within the law to address these issues.”

Referring to the Brexit process, he added: “Boris Johnson is in the middle, trying to get a deal, whilst under incredible political pressure on all sides.”

BRS chairman Peter Wilkins said: “Mr Tatar has called on British people to buy properties in North Cyprus, having explained his background and his values. [He] was very positive and was mingling with expats and speaking to them informally.”
