Scores of protesters donned black T-shirts to march through central Lefkoşa's on Wednesday evening.
Demonstrators bore placards demanding “actions not words” and with slogans warning drivers to “stick to the same speed as Cyprus talks” and “Don't look at your phone; don't go off the road”, and that “Cars don't kill, carelessness does” and “Traffic doesn't forgive mistakes”.
They sang a song, Rüzgar, by late Turkish rock musician and actor Barış Akarsu, who died in 2007, five days after turning 28, following a crash with a truck on the way to his own birthday party in the Turkish resort of Bodrum.
