The latest person to die since new year was İbrahim Tekedoğan, who passed away in hospital in Adana where he was being treated after a May 5 accident in which his car careered into a tree at Haspolat, seriously injuring him and his eight-year-old daughter, Filiz.

Traffic victim number 11 was 21-year-old unversity student Sadrettin Kara whose car, said to have been travelling at high speed, left the Gazimagusa-İskele road on a bend, smashed into a garden wall and rolled for 250 metres, coming to rest on its roof at 4pm last Saturday.

Mr Kara was thrown out of the vehicle as it tumbled down a slope near Ambelia Restaurant. He died later at Gazimağusa State Hospital.
