Azmad Ali, one of the main suspects in the murder case, was remanded in custody for three days following an appearance at Lefkoşa District Court.

He had been brought to the “Green Line” by UN peacekeepers at 12.30pm, according to a written statement by Hakkı Önen, co-chair of the Bicommunal Technical Committee on Crime and Criminal Matters.

Mr Ali was transferred to the TRNC having served a short sentence in South Cyprus after he was caught trying to leave the island via Larnaca airport with a fake ID.

Exchange bureau owner and father-of-two Mr Naim, 52, was shot four times outside his home on March 13 as attackers stole his briefcase, which reportedly contained £112,000, 170,000 euros and 800,000TL in cash.

Four more suspects believed to be in the South – Zahid Masood, Imran Arshan, Ali Hassan and Tanver Ahmed – could also be extradited if apprehended.
