The student was allegedly told by a crooked agent that a “train would arrive to take him to England” from a university campus in North Cyprus.
The claim was among the latest made by representatives of a group set up to “share the good and bad experiences” of studying in the TRNC following the death earlier this year of Nigerian national Kennedy Taomwabwa Dede.
Mr Dede, who had been an architecture student at Gazimağusa’s Eastern Mediterranean University, died following a brutal beating.
Two children found his battered body lying in water at the edge of the Çanakkale reservoir on January 30.
Seven people are currently in prison custody awaiting trial over the abduction and death of Mr Dede.
