TCs recognised at UK awards gala dinner

SUCCESSFUL Turkish Cypriots in Britain will be recognised for their achievements and contributions to the community at the second Council of Turkish Cypriot Associations (CTCA) UK Awards Gala Dinner and Dance in London in October.

A total of 26 people have been shortlisted for a number of awards, including the best community activist, male and female personalities of the year and the “rising stars” of 2019.

The black tie biennial event, first held in 2017, will take place at the Royal National Hotelin Bloomsbury at 7pm on Saturday, October 12, and will also feature live music and entertainment.

Winners at the inaugural awards ceremony included businessman and BBC Dragons’ Den star Touker Süleyman, ITV Love Island winner KemÇetinay, celebrity chef SelinKiazim and long-serving community activist AkileIşın.

Speaking to Cyprus Today, CTCA UK president Leyla Kemal said: “We have organised the second event of its kind to show our deep appreciation to successful members of the Turkish Cypriot community in the UK.

“I am also honoured that I will again be president of the CTCA and will have the privilege of handing out the awards.

“There will be many surprises in store regarding who will be at this fantastic event. . . The first awards ceremony was held in 2017 as one of three major events to commemorate the centenary of Turkish Cypriot migration to the UK.
