The clean-up’s which began on November 16 as a month-long initiative by the Girne Volunteers for Good, taking place every Sunday at the field between the amphitheatre and Girne Castle, was this weekend attended by more than 20 volunteers including foreign expats who all joined efforts and managed to collect around 25 bags of rubbish.
Head of the Girne Volunteers for Good, which has been established under the Evkaf, Oya Kutsal said: “This is an area we have focused on just like we did with Kaşgar some time ago where we worked eight months to clear it up from being a hotspot for crime and managed to regain it as a beautiful spot in town to visit.
“This pro-active project has been such a great success that now that we have managed to clean it we will be looking at having meetings with the Girne Municipality to decide on regulating the environment there, put up lighting and maybe even consider having benches or café’s there as it is one of the most beautiful spots in Girne.”
