Three of the needy dogs — being cared for in kennels while they wait to be re-homed, after being saved from a struggling privately run shelter at Vadili — were among the group which enjoyed a “Wag ‘n’ Walk” outing organised by the Golden Paws Association.
The event, on February 25, raised £540 towards the Save Vadili Dogs initiative and will go towards paying off outstanding veterinary bills, kennel fees and travel costs involved in rehoming the animals.
Twenty-three of the 27 dogs rescued from the shelter — since shut down — have gone to new homes, including three on the island, two sent to Germany, one to France and the rest to the UK. Just three remain in kennels and one in temporary foster care. Participants gathered at Çatalköy’s SeAngle Bar, where fourlegged walkers received bandanas and the ex-shelter dogs were fitted with coats and neckerchiefs bearing the slogan “adopt me”.
The outfits were made by Sonia Brown, of the village’s Food Lodge Bakery, using material provided by Carole King.
