Friends and family gathered instead at GreenHill Cemetery on Thursday to bid a final farewell to Marion Youden, following her unexpected death on Saturday.
She passed away in her sleep during an afternoon rest in the run-up to her party, which had been arranged by her partner Michael Brown and her UK-based daughter.
She and former mechanic Mr Brown had met on the beach in the 1980s while she was visiting her mother on the island and he was running a jetski business. They lived in England before moving to the TRNC in 1999.
A nature and animal lover and volunteer for Kyrenia Animal Rescue, Mrs Youden was well known for her fundraising activities which included a 2014 tandem paraglide, a sponsored pool swim and a regular bric-a-brac stall at the charity's dog shows and Christmas bazaars.
A long time and popular North Cyprus resident, she volunteered for KAR “virtually from the beginning”, first as a supervisor at its Arapköy shelter almost 17 years ago and, more recently, at the Home and Garden KAR shop in central Girne.
Her family requested that donations be given to the charity in lieu of flowers.
KAR head Margaret Ray said: "She will be greatly missed and we are all still shocked and grieving."
Mourners were invited to attend a remembrance party at her Çatalköy home after the 10.30am funeral.
Mrs Youden is survived by Mr Brown and her daughter, Clarissa Hunt, and grandchildren.
