İbrahim Erhalk, 61, had admitted shooting dead his wife, Nigar Tevfik Erhalk, with his hunting gun after a row on July 26 last year – making her the 18th woman to be killed at the hands of a partner in 10 years.
Lefkoşa Assize Court had been told that the tragedy happened after the London-based couple, who were going through a divorce, had travelled to the TRNC for a holiday. Mrs Erhalk had arrived about a fortnight before her death, her husband following later, neighbours said.
Mother-of-three Mrs Erhalk was said to have attacked her husband with a knife after discovering that he had disposed of their property.
