Hundreds have already turned out for 42nd traditional Güzelyurt Orange Festival and the 51st Traditional İskele Festival, which opened last Friday and reach their conclusions tomorrow.
Both events feature stalls selling local produce, and have offered up a series of events including concerts by local and Turkish singers, folkdance performances by local and international groups, a beauty contest and classic car shows.
President Akıncı, attending the opening of the İskele celebrations with his wife Meral, thanked its organisers, saying: “Although the TRNC is not officially recognised and it is very hard to see that happening in the future . . . festivals organised with the participation of international groups and the international recognition of university certificates transcend the country's borders.
“Maybe people don't recognise the TRNC but they have to recognise its art.”
