FUNDS have been freed up to give the green light to stalled communications projects – including construction of bypasses both east and west of Girne – it was announced this week.
Transport and Public Works Ministry under-secretary Kemal Bağzıbağlı said agreements had been reached on ongoing highways, telecommunications, civil aviation, postal and coastal safety schemes and about launching work on others, ending the “dire straits in funding” that had affected them.
“Significant progress” was also expected this year on road constructions held up by problems with land expropriation, he added.
Mr Bağzıbağlı gave the news after leading a delegation on a two-day working visit to Ankara, for meetings with officials in Turkey's Transport, Infrastructure and Interior ministries.
