The 3-day maki fest

A RECENT three-day festival at Bafra Beach drew hundreds of people to a wide range of events including a party on the sands, camping, musical concerts, yoga and underwater diving instruction.

The 3-day maki fest

The 3rd Maki Fest included entertainment by reggae rockers LimeStone, Bunfyah and OneBlood, rock and heavy metal bands from the Punjab and the laid-back sounds of Latin music from Estrellas Latinas de Chypre. Expat favourite Ed Sezener with his “psychedelic” rock band Stingray also performed alongside big-name DJs from the TRNC and Turkey.

Organised by the non-profit Maki collective and a community group named the Mağusa Kale Pasajı, the festival also involved collaboration between the Vois Cyprus lobby group and the Refugee Rights Association which resulted in discussion groups and workshops on human rights in Cyprus, including the issue of students from overseas.

Volunteers carried out a mass clean-up of Bafra Beach at the end of the event.
