THOUSANDS of people turned out to watch the first race of the 2019 North Cyprus Drift Championship when it took place at Lefkoşa’s Cemsa Sporting Centre on Sunday.

The North Cyprus Automobile Club-organised event had 20 participants who were divided into pro and semi-pro categories for the first time.

Top pro was Enver Haskasap, with 94 points, while the fastest semi-pro was Fahri Efendi with 73 points. The “Top 16” category was headed by Bekir Ozsusuzlu after his final opponent, Akay Akbil, failed to start due to a mechanical failure.

Organisers said the day had “an adrenaline-filled atmosphere” enjoyed by the crowds of enthusiastic spectators.
