A patriotic garden concert picnic in the capital on Tuesday saw the island’s British and Cypriot community rub shoulders with military and diplomats at the annual Shakespeare House Military Band Concert to support “The Soldiers’ Charity”, the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF).
The weather held up for an enthusiastic crowd with hampers and flags who each contributed 15 euros for tables on the lawn and arrived at 5pm to decorate and set up their feasts.
After a welcome by new British High Commissioner Stephen Lillie and debutant event organiser Jonny Kay’s tributes to an army of volunteers, the “stage” was set for the Band of the Queen’s Division, director of music Captain Ben Mason and band Sgt Maj Richard Pantrey and the Band of the Queen’s Division.
