Raising the roof

Royal wedding fever hit North Cyprus on Tuesday, where ‘Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’ — aka Amanda Warrender and Bryan Tattersall — took their places at the ‘best dressed table’ at an army band concert and picnic in the grounds of Shakespeare House, together with Gill Joyce, Gloria Tattersall, David Warrender and Trudy Mace.

A patriotic garden concert picnic in the capital on Tuesday saw the island’s British and Cypriot community rub shoulders with military and diplomats at the annual Shakespeare House Military Band Concert to support “The Soldiers’ Charity”, the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF).

The weather held up for an enthusiastic crowd with hampers and flags who each contributed 15 euros for tables on the lawn and arrived at 5pm to decorate and set up their feasts.
After a welcome by new British High Commissioner Stephen Lillie and debutant event organiser Jonny Kay’s tributes to an army of volunteers, the “stage” was set for the Band of the Queen’s Division, director of music Captain Ben Mason and band Sgt Maj Richard Pantrey and the Band of the Queen’s Division.
