A UK-BASED Turkish Cypriot has made history by winning in his professional boxing debut representing the TRNC.

Sugar Atahasan, 35, proudly displayed the TRNC flag after beating Nicaraguan Pablo Narvaez – veteran of more than 30 pro fights -- by 40 to 37 points in Lincoln last Saturday.

Their bout was on the undercard of a World Boxing Union (WBU) super middleweight world championship fight, in which Nathan Decastro took the belt with victory over Ghanaian Daniel Adjei Sowah.

Last Saturday’s clash at the Engine Shed UK in the University of Lincoln saw Atahasan officially represent the TRNC as a British and Irish Boxing Authority (Biba-TRNC) fighter after flying to the UK with his coach and mentor, Mehmet Pasha.
