Gina Mapp, 49, who moved to Lapta from Ashford in Kent two years ago has taken on the role of captain. "I never played cricket until I came to North Cyprus, but it's a game with everything, high-paced and very exciting as we play a short, soft-ball version,” she said.
“I also enjoy the practice every Saturday morning as its fun and great for my fitness.
“Since the handover of the captain’s role last week, we now practice weekly and train for the upcoming spring tournament of three games in April and then the autumn tournament. Cricket is not very well known in the community but we are hoping to change that as we have started to get international players on our team from countries such as Norway, Romania and the Philippines.”
TRNC Cricket Association coach Nigel Holman said: "Gina will add a lot to the team, she's very committed and I'm sure will be able to inspire the other ladies.
“I would like to thank retiring captain Hale Silifkeli for all her hard work. Unfortunately, following a knee injury she will not be able to play for a while, so she felt it was better if someone else captained the team.”
Gina Mapp invites anyone interested in playing ladies cricket and meeting new people to contact her on 0533 8335113.
