AN EASTERN Mediterranean University (EMU) world-renowned sportswoman has competed in a major international athletics championship.

Ese Brume took part in the long-jump event of the International Association of Athletics Federation tournament in London which ends tomorrow (Sunday).

Ms Brume, 21, a Nigerian track and field athlete who specialises in the long jump, holds a personal best of 6.83m and is the African junior record holder. She was also a gold medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Ms Brume, who is 1.67m and weighs 58 kilos, smashed records at an inter-university athletics tournament held in Denizli, Turkey, which qualified her to go to London, where she is accompanied by her coach Hasan Maydon.

The Guardian newspaper said the “Nigerian flag-bearer” “vowed not to disappoint her nation”.

Note: We will need to report the results of Wednesday and Friday when she competes but Friday may not be possible if it is in the evening!!
