The capital's Near East University (NEU) this week announced fixtures for the International Dr Suat Günsel Basketball Tournament, named after the Near East Group founder.
The competition comes on the back of the NEU women basketballers' historic “triple crown” 2016/7 season, which saw them win the Turkish league and cup, as well as the sport's European cup competition.
To be held between September 14 and 17, the Günsel tournament will be held at the RA 25 sports salon on the university campus with six teams taking part: Near East University, Galatasaray Sports Club (Turkey), CB Avenida (Spain), Castors Braine (Belgium), Hatay Municipality (Turkey) and ZWZ USK Prague (Czech Republic).
The teams will be divided into two groups, with Group A pitting Galatasaray, CB Avenida and Hatay against each other, while Group B consists of Near East University, ZWZ USK Prague and Castors Braine.
The tournament starts on Thursday, September 14 with Galatasaray facing CB Avenida at 5.15pm followed by a game between the home side and ZWZ USK Prague at 7.30pm. The next evening's action will continue with Hatay pitted against Galatasaray at 5.15pm followed by Castors Braine against NEU at 7.30pm.
On Saturday, September 16 Avenida will play Hatay at 5.15pm followed by a clash between ZWZ USK Prague and Castors Braine at 7.30pm.
Sunday, September 17 will see the play-off for fifth and sixth place take place at 3pm followed by the third-place play-off between the group runners-up at 5.15pm.
The final, between the winners of the two groups, is scheduled for the same evening at 7.30pm.
