FUNDRAISERS for the Gönyeli dog shelter were “over the moon” after almost 16,000TL was raised at a Christmas Fayre held at the Lord’s Palace Hotel on Sunday.

Carole King, of the Gönyeli Guardian Angels, who helped organised the event, said that “just under 300 adults and about 70 children” attended. There were 20 stalls selling tasty treats and homemade products, and a raffle.

“In total, 15,648.50TL was raised” Ms King said. “We are overwhelmed with the support and how hard everyone who participated at the event worked. The profit is going to help abandoned dogs at the shelter”.

She added: “The atmosphere was lovely and it certainly looked like everyone was enjoying themselves.”

Lord’s Palace also pitched in by providing use of their facilities for free and one of the raffle prizes, a dinner for two at their Spice Restaurant.

Other raffle prizes included a two-night stay with bed and breakfast at a hotel, “scuba dive experiences”, a luxury hamper and a “bag of linens”.

There was also a delicious cake for the winner of a “guess the weight of the cake” competition.

“Thank you to all the stallholders who came along supported and hopefully had a successful fayre,” Ms King said.

“Thanks to Meryem’s Hotel, Lords Palace, North Cyprus Scuba Centre, Wagtrails and Blackbird Designs for their raffle prizes.

“Thank you also to all those people that donated goods, food and money for our stalls. And lastly thank you to everyone who turned up on the day to support the event.”
