Fidan to visit TRNC for talks on Cyprus developments

Fidan will meet President Tufan Erhürman, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu during the working visit, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources.

His visit comes as UN Secretary-General António Guterres’s personal envoy, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, continues contacts on the island ahead of a possible broader meeting on Cyprus.

Holguín’s visit runs from October 29 to November 10. She met Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides on October 30 and Erhürman on November 2.

During his July 27–29 visit to Cyprus, Guterres called for greater efforts to advance co-operation between the two sides. He said a meeting in the 5+1 format would be held following the necessary preparations, while stressing that he wanted it to produce results.

The UN-led process has focused on practical measures intended to benefit both communities and build trust.

Two informal meetings involving the island’s leaders and representatives of the guarantor powers were held in Geneva and New York in 2025. Six areas for co-operation were identified at the Geneva gathering, although progress on key issues, including new crossing points, remains limited.

Ankara continues to advocate a settlement based on two states existing side by side. It says Turkish Cypriots’ sovereign equality and equal international status must be recognised.

Turkey also maintains that, as a guarantor power, it will continue supporting the security, development and prosperity of the Turkish Cypriot people.
