RUS billionaire Roman Abramovich has denied allegations that assets worth $672 million held by a company in South Cyprus were transferred using falsified documents to avoid tax.

Abramovich denies BBC tax allegations

According to Alithia newspaper, a BBC investigation alleged that a major accountancy firm helped arrange the transfers through backdated paperwork after new transparency legislation made the disclosure of assets mandatory.

The report claimed that luxury villas, a yacht, a private jet, a helicopter and other assets were removed from the company’s records, leaving it appearing to hold assets worth just $75,000.

The arrangements allegedly allowed the assets to be treated as tax-exempt, avoiding a substantial tax liability.

Abramovich’s lawyers rejected the allegations.
